On the verge of returning to the elite of French football after two seasons spent in Ligue 2, AS Saint-Etienne intends to strike hard on the transfer market this summer. A player recently highlighted during the Euro in Germany has already caught the eye of Saint-Etienne leaders for several weeks.

After the sporting and financial difficulties encountered in recent seasons, ASSE is finally seeing the sky clear up. On mission during the 2023-2024 Ligue 2 financial year, the Stéphanois have done everything possible to regain their place in Ligue 1 as quickly as possible. This has been a given for Olivier Dall’Oglio’s team since June 2 and the play-off won against FC Metz. Since June 10, the summer transfer window has started and many rumors of arrivals have leaked into Forez. Previously, Loïc Perrin was already closely interested in a prodigy from another emblematic French club.

Davitashvili on the ASSE shelves since May

The Georgian international is currently in the spotlight with his selection during the Euro which is being played in Germany. Not started once by Willy Sagnol, Zuriko Davitashvili was however the author of a very good entry into play during the match against the Czech Republic in the Georgians’ last match. What’s more, at the end of the Ligue 2 season, the 23-year-old winger was particularly impressive in a disoriented Bordeaux team. Interesting performances which did not leave Saint-Etienne observers indifferent.

Our colleagues from 90 football relayed at the beginning of the month that AS Saint-Etienne was very interested in Zuriko Davitashvili to expand its squad next season. A transfer which, probably, has been discussed internally for many weeks as evidenced by the meeting between the sporting director of the Greens and the player’s representatives in May. On Instagram, photos of the meeting between the two camps had been published. Zuriko Davitashvili, whose market value is estimated at three million euros by Transfermarkt, could be tempted by the idea of discovering Ligue 1 with ASSE. At the same time, the unstable financial situation of the Girondins de Bordeaux could greatly facilitate the transfer of the Georgian to Saint-Etienne. In this sense, the good understanding between the Bordeaux leaders and the new Saint-Etienne leaders is likely to facilitate the player’s arrival in Saint-Etienne.

Without a doubt, the Davitashvili case will appear as one of the summer soap operas in Forez, a case to be continued…
