The family of Michael Schumacher, victim of serious head trauma in December 2013, was the victim of two blackmailers, who were arrested last week in Germany.

A duo of crooks. A father and his son, aged 53 and 30 respectively, were arrested last week by the German authorities, the public prosecutor’s office in Wuppertal (west) said on Monday. Both are suspected of attempting to blackmail Michael Schumacher’s family. They told relatives of the former Formula 1 legend that they were in possession of data that she would not like to see disseminated, according to the prosecutor’s press release which did not give further details on the nature of this data.

They face five years in prison

The two blackmailers, who had sent mailings to the family supposed to prove their assertions, demanded several million euros to prevent the dissemination of this famous data on the “darknet”. Following their arrest, in the parking lot of a supermarket near Frankfurt, several places were searched, including their main homes, as well as the father’s second home and workplace located in Constance (south).

These searches led to the seizure of several computer media which are currently being evaluated. And while the two individuals were presented last Thursday to the Wuppertal court to be incarcerated, they face up to five years in prison if they are found guilty.
