Underrated prospect of the Montreal Canadiens, forward Jared Davidson took matters into his own hands on Friday night in Syracuse to lead the Rocket to a 4-3 shootout victory over the Crunch.

In addition to providing two goals, Davidson scored the only goal of the shootout to sink Joël Bouchard’s troops.

Trailing 2-0 in the second period, the Rocket turned the tide thanks to Davidson’s fifth and sixth goals of the season, scored in quick succession in the space of 32 seconds.

Vincent Arseneau then gave the Rocket the lead for the first time in the match towards the end of the period.

But overtime was necessary, since Milo Roelens brought everyone back to square one in the third period; former CH Jesse Ylönen was complicit in the Quebec center player’s second goal of the season.

Overtime having failed, Davidson managed to beat goaltender Brandon Halverson as the first shooter sent into the shootout. Logan Mailloux and Joshua Roy then missed their attempt.

Jakub Dobes gave nothing to Ylönen, Conor Sheary and Logan Brown. The Czech also stopped 27 pucks to bring his record to 6-1-0.

For the Rocket, this is a 10th victory in their last 11 games. Pascal Vincent’s squad will be back in action on Saturday against the Americans, the Buffalo Sabres’ farm club, in Rochester.
