Experienced Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic has made a rant to ask his team to stop losing points on the road this season.
After the last autumn break, Olympique Lyonnais finally returns to the championship this Saturday with a trip to Reims. A match between two teams at the top of the table which will not be easy, but OL really want to see what happens higher up in the standings. OM, third, and which has been struggling in recent weeks, is for example only two points ahead. The victory in the derby did not necessarily convince everyone, but it confirmed Lyon's ambitions in the championship. And the same goes for the experienced Nemanja Matic in the European Cup.
Questioned on the sidelines of the match in Reims, the Serbian looked back on the first part of the season, and asked his team to be more efficient and ruthless in matches if they want to shine. “ We are 5th and I think we missed opportunities to take more points. There are matches that we should have won. On the pitch we must try to score more. Against Marseille we should have scored more. Against Saint-Étienne too we should have killed this match. We are one of the clubs in the world that creates the most scoring opportunities. We must improve our efficiency. This 5th place does not suit me. OL must be in the Champions League. In the Europa League we are well placed and we will do everything to try to win the competition”asked the former Manchester United player, who made three finalists in the Europa League with Benfica Lisbon, Manchester United and Roma, without yet managing to win it.
A personal objective for Matic, but also collective for OL who dream of restoring their image and also scoring valuable UEFA points if a return to the Champions League was ever considered for next season.
