Metz stalls against Clermont, match with twists and turns between Caen and Rodez, Pau and Laval enjoy themselves – Ligue 2 – J14 – Summary

If the last day of Ligue 2 had been full of surprises, that was not the case this Friday evening. Only Metz was trapped by Clermont on its lawn (1-1). The Auvergnats even managed to open the score after a quarter of an hour of play thanks to Mehdi Baaloudj (1-0, 14^e) before Ibou Sané came to bring the Garnets back up to speed about ten minutes later (1-1, 27^e). Metz remains 3^e tied on points with Dunkirk who will face Ajaccio on Monday, the Clermontois are now 13^e but remain under the threat of Ajaccio, first relegation, and only two units.

Offensive Festival

In four of the six matches played, at least three goals were scored. Only the match between Troyes and Grenoble ended in a boring 0-0, quite the opposite of the thrilling Caen-Rodez which ended in a spectacular draw (3-3) snatched by Nicolas Seube's protégés at the end of added time by Daylam Meddah (90^e+6). A match which was interrupted during the first period for smoke bombs being thrown.

Red Star and Martigues, promoted from National and currently relegated, respectively suffered the wrath of Pau (4-1) and Laval (0-3). If the Red Star managed to match its opponent during the first half before completely collapsing during the last 45 minutes, Martigues continued to sink and even saw itself drop out of the fight for maintenance since the Sang and gold are now six points behind Troyes, first non-relegation.

The last card of the day concerns Guingamp who also won 3 goals to 0 against apathetic Amiens. Yet outnumbered for nearly 45 minutes after the expulsion of Sohaib Nair (48^e), the Guingampais continued their undermining work, notably thanks to Jacques Siwe, author of a sumptuous strike from outside the area (1-0,13^e) before doubling the bet on the hour of play (3-0, 64^e).
