For his first qualification for a senior international championship, Beauvais native Luidgi Midelton knew how to make a name for himself. He won the individual and team gold medal at the European Fencing Championships which took place from June 18 to 23, 2024 in Switzerland.

Luidgi Midelton never stops winning! The Beauvaisian swordsman won the European team championships against the Italians this Saturday June 22, 2024 in Basel, Switzerland.

At his side, Romain Cannone, Paul Allègre and Alexandre Bardenet, who replaced Yannick Borel. This last “could not take part in the competition due to leg pain”notes the French Fencing Federation.

This new title follows his victory, Thursday June 20, in the individual epee event, his first medal in a major championship.

By signing this double performance a few days apart, Luidgi Midelton “made a notable entry into the international rankings”, rejoices the Beauvais Fencing Academy. As a reminder, this is his very first qualification for a senior international championship.

The swordsman had already attracted attention during his qualification for the Paris Olympic Games, but also during the Vancouver World Cup in 2023. He also won the gold medal there.

Now, it’s the home stretch for the Paris Olympics where he will compete in the individual epee event on Sunday July 28, 2024, in just over a month.
