It closed its doors a year ago for work which has still not started.
The Bastia theater is still awaiting the completion of an essential phase for the launch of the project: the asbestos removal of the structure.
The operation, planned for this summer, is delayed due to another setback on a municipal construction site.
According to the town hall, asbestos removal should begin in January. Its cost of 850,000 euros was included in the initial budget.
Asbestos is omnipresent in the reconstructed post-war demonstration in this area located under the stands in the bowels of the building.
Once the asbestos has been removed, the work itself can begin.
Drilling was carried out to test the strength of the structure.
A crane will be fixed inside the building itself, in the concrete of the future elevator shaft.
The work planned is massive, and, according to the town hall, the deadlines should be met despite the current setback.
The objective therefore remains delivery during 2028.
The result of the majority of calls for tenders for this 42 million euro project should be known in the spring.
However, the city of Bastia is still awaiting the signature of the State, which must finance 50% of the total cost of the work.
The municipality indicates that it has no concerns on this subject.
