Yesterday, the French team conceded a draw against the Netherlands. A match which did not live up to expectations and which raises questions regarding a possible qualification for the round of 16. When the performances of certain Blues, that of their coach Didier Deschamps also raises questions.

The Blues had to confirm last night against a Dutch team victorious against Poland, but crumbly. Handicapped by the absence of Mbappé following a violent shock during the first match, the Blues proved very little during this meeting. Ineffective in attack and with shortcomings defensively, the French team did not produce his best football. A draw attributable to the players but also to the coach Didier Deschamps.

Choices that didn’t pay off

To compensate for the absence of Kylian Mbappé, the coach of the Blues drastically changed his team layoute. Moving from a 4-2-3-1 to vocation offensive during the match against Austria, Deschamps reshuffled his squad by aligning a 4-4-1-1 much defensive. In addition, Adrien Rabiot started higher, ahead of Théo Hernandez, which largely deprived the French team of the recoveries of the Juventini midfielder, who was very effective at the opening of the tournament. As for the offensive contribution of Deschamps’ men, it was much less rapid and sharp. Without the presence of Mbappé, and the tenure of Rabiot (much less rapid, technical and killer in front of goal than an attacker), the offensive game of the French team found himself very poor on the left wing. Many point to the non-tenure of Bradley Barcola. Indeed, the young Parisian nugget would perhaps have allowed the French game to lean a little more to the left, even coming off the bench. Knowing the speed and technical quality of the young 21-year-old playerthis could have brought something to the Blues, much less inspired than in the previous match. It’s hard to understand why the French tactician didn’t give him a chance.

With 4 points, France is almost guaranteed to qualify for the next round of the Euro. However, Deschamps’ men will aim for first place in the group against the Poles next Tuesday.
