Ducati to withdraw official motorcycle in 2025

The Italian manufacturer plans to field 3 official motorcycles next year: the 2 from the factory team plus one from a satellite team. There were 4 since 2020.

Ducati had been warning for several weeks of a change in policy coming in 2025. One of the consequences was revealed by the general director of Ducati Corse, Gigi Dall’Igna, in Assen. And it is significant since it involves the reduction in the number of official motorcycles – or motorcycles of the current year – on the MotoGP grid.

Ducati used to field 4 official bikes each season: 2 for the factory team, 2 for the Pramac satellite team. This has been the case continuously since 2020, but it also happened from 2007 to 2013. Jorge Martin and Franco Morbidelli now have the GP24, as do Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini in the Ducati Lenovo Team.

This way of operating has become, in most cases, that of other manufacturers. Honda entrusts 2 official machines to the LCR structure, as does KTM with Tech3. There is one at Trackhouse, but Aprilia is working to entrust 2 RS-GPs to the American team. Yamaha has promised 2 official M1s to Pramac in 2025.

At Ducati, on the other hand, only one Desmodedici GP25 should be delivered to a satellite team, and no longer 2. There will therefore be 3 official motorcycles and 3 GP24s, while we expected 4 GP25s and 2 GP24s. “This seems to us to be the right balance, from the point of view of pilot growth as well as from an economic point of view”justifies Dall’Igna on Italian Sky TV.

According to our information, the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team will be the team which will receive the GP25. At Gresini Racing, 2 GP24s will be entrusted to Alex Marquez and his future teammate.
