They got into it hard. After a rather peaceful start to the race, the 40 sailors in the Vendée Globe fleet very quickly reached their first landmark: Cape Finisterre, in the northwest of Spain, a usually dangerous area where intense maritime traffic is added. natural dangers and violent currents. They were then propelled along Portugal by a generous breeze of 30 knots, nothing like it to accelerate the necessary land-sea change.
After the first fight, it helps to bring the head and the boat together. Especially after the departure which gripped them all. Faced with the unprecedented enthusiasm of the crowd, the emotional shock for these tightrope walkers of solitude was intense, but nevertheless well controlled. Justine Mettraux (TeamWork-Team Snef) admitted to us that she approached the Vendée Globe like a classic regatta, an approach which helped her to concentrate and get off to an excellent start. The three Swiss skippers enjoyed entering the race, reconnecting with the world of the sea, which implies a change of state.
