Although the Marne department did not have the chance to host a sporting event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, it is nevertheless hosting an exhibition on the subject.
And you’ll have to act quickly to see it! The exhibition “the Marnais at the Olympic Games” of the genealogy workshop of Charleville, a town near Montmirail, will only be presented to the public this Saturday November 16from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. It will be installed above the town’s school.
10 Marnais at the Olympics
The exhibition will offer an often overlooked vision of high-level sport in the department.
“It’s an exhibition on around ten Marnais who have participated in the Olympics since 1896.”
“We treated a genealogical section on each athlete with a tree and part of the sports results. For some, family life was mentioned. » The genealogy workshop is “from the Charleville 51 festival committee”, specifies the facilitator.
Famous athletes
Among the athletes who were the subject of the workshop’s work, we find in particular the Lauvaux brothers. “Out of a family of 15 children, five stood out with regional records and two were selected for the Olympic Games in athletics,” explains the host.
It is also a question of Lucien Thezea great basketball player who participated in the JO of Berlin in 1936 and the big Micheline Ostermayer134 national titles in hurdles, sprints, high jumps, shot put and discus and in the pentathlon. “She won a gold medal at London in 1948 in shot put and discus, and bronze medal in high jump,” continues Isabelle Gaugain.
A presentation of Ancient Olympic Games of Pierre de Coubertin, the start of the Paralympic Games and the arrival of women at the Olympics will also be part of this exhibition.
