François Janin died in Paris, where he lived, at the age of 88. He will have left his mark on generations by commenting on several sports including Formula 1 and swimming, his favorites. His beginnings were marked by his years at ORTF during the 1960s – alongside Raymond Marcillac, Robert Chapatte and Roger Couderc – where he became one of the first F1 commentators, particularly for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1976, while the Olympics were taking place in Montreal, he became a sports specialist on the show Stade 2broadcast on Antenne 2. A few years later, he switched to TF1 and took control of a brand new program that he created, Sports Sunday evening. He had also obtained a position as sports director in the group.

At the end of the 1980s, he resigned from the front page to take early retirement when he no longer really got along with management. François Janin then collaborated occasionally with the Canadian channel Radio Canada. However, it was in Paris that he breathed his last this Tuesday, June 18, in the evening.
