Winners by the smallest of margins in their “Cauldron”, the Greens picked up their first points on Friday since their return to Ligue 1.

AS Saint-Etienne’s season has begun. In a “Cauldron” in fusion with the return of one of its corners, the Greens won their first points of the season by winning by a narrow margin against Lille, at the start of the fourth day of Ligue 1 (1-0). A victory of resistance for the locals, who opened the scoring in the 6th minute with a nice strike into the top corner by Matthieu Cafaro.

Long dominated in the process, the Foréziens were able to resist against Lille who were rather imprecise in front of goal, like Edon Zhegrova, who notably found the bar from close range half an hour into the game. Coming into play in the second half, Canadian striker Jonathan David was unable to reverse the trend for Lille, who were surprised this Friday at Geoffroy-Guichard. A rehearsal that was not exactly ideal before their return to the Champions League on Tuesday against Sporting Portugal.

This second defeat in a row, after the one at home against PSG before the break (1-3), thus coincides with the first victory of the season for ASSE, which remained on three defeats and no goal scored since its return to the elite. And seeing the explosion of joy of the “Chaudron”, this one was at least expected. Olivier Dall’Oglio and his players thus offer themselves a little respite.
