A two-piece puzzle for the Alouettes

A two-piece puzzle for the Alouettes

With only two pieces, a puzzle should never be difficult to put together. However, the situation seems different with the Montreal Alouettes regarding quarterbacks Cody Fajardo and Davis Alexander.

According to the echoes coming from the players’ results as well as those of the managers, earlier this week, we guess that it will be difficult for the Alouettes to keep both.

I also understand Fajardo’s position very well, who deserves to remain a number one quarterback in the Canadian League. Why would he agree to play second fiddle to Alexander?

But for me, it is unequivocal: Alexander must stay in Montreal and he is the Alouettes’ quarterback for future years. You just can’t let a player like him go to this important position.

Alexander is only 26 years old. He could be the Alouettes’ starting quarterback for five, six or seven years, if not more. I like what he brings both on and off the field. His energy is contagious.

My comments are not a disavowal of Fajardo, but I repeat, the Alouettes cannot let Alexander go, who could become a free agent in mid-February. After the defeat in the Eastern final, the time has come to give the dust time to settle a little. However, the matter remains crucial for general manager Danny Maciocia during the off-season as Fajardo has a contract valid until the end of the 2025 season.

Why not twins in Montreal?

Speaking of the free agent market, let me dream a little and imagine that the Alouettes might be able to convince Jalen Philpot, Tyson’s twin, to come to Montreal. It would be incredible for the Alouettes, on the field, but also in terms of marketing.

There is only one step to take to suggest a spectacular transaction between the Alouettes and the Stampeders, by which Fajardo would be sent to Calgary in return for the twin. I’m dreaming out loud, because it’s obvious to me that the Stampeders might be more interested in…Alexander.
