The Blues struggled sportingly this Thursday evening with a draw (0-0) against the Israeli selection which still qualifies them for the quarter-finals of the Nations League. But in the context of the war in Gaza and Lebanon, it was not for sporting reasons that tension was at its height at the Stade de France.
The match was actually played exactly a week after the violence and controversies linked to the Maccabi Tel-Aviv match in Amsterdam. The security system in Saint-Denis was therefore maximum: 4,000 French law enforcement agents (not counting private security agents) for probably less than 15,000 spectators at the end of the day in a stadium which could have accommodated 80,000 people. Police officers present, including in the sports arena, an extremely rare case.
