Séverine Le Scouarnec and Emilie Rouland, two sportswomen from Quimper, are leaving on November 20 for “the adventure of a lifetime”, heading to Cambodia. They join the Raid Amazones teams for ten days of sporting competitions and cultural activities. “The principle of the raid is that we have sports activities in the morning: running, canoeing, run and bike, archery… It’s only for women. We participate as a duo or trio,” explains Séverine Le Scouarnec. “It is also a human adventure. In the morning, it’s sport but in the afternoon, it’s focused on local and culture. We share the daily tasks of the inhabitants, we also discover the culinary specialties. There are plenty of activities,” adds Emilie Rouland.
A solidarity trail
“It’s also a solidarity trail. We have sponsors to help us pay the registration fees and then everything extra is donated to the Quimper association Enfance et Partage which helps families and children victims of violence,” adds her teammate, Emilie Rouland . This is actually the second time that they have taken on the challenge of going to the other side of the planet. During their first raid, in Sri Lanka, they donated €2,200 to the association. It seems that both women have become adventure enthusiasts. Two years ago, the “Breizh girls on fire” enjoyed the challenge they set themselves. Not necessarily thinking of doing it again. Then, quickly, the desire is there again. “And we also liked the destination,” adds Emilie Rouland. If two years ago, they had prepared well physically, they do not hide having trained less this time. The human resources manager and the architect, who are both mothers, have busy lives. They ran out of time a little. “The weeks are busy,” confirms Séverine Le Scouarnec.
“We have to listen to ourselves”
“But we’re not going there to win. The goal is to enjoy,” smiles Emilie Rouland. “We especially want to finish. It’s sometimes a challenge with the fatigue of getting up at 3:30 in the morning to go running and then missing the family,” explains her accomplice. They learned to listen to each other. Even if for the first raid, she didn’t know herself very well. “We weren’t necessarily friends initially. We both shared races. We each had the idea of doing the Amazon Raid. When we talked about it, we never doubted that it would go well,” assures Séverine Le Scouarnec. “However, this is not always easy because we have to complete each event together. We know the character of both. We are still with each other 24 hours a day for ten days. You have to listen to yourself,” laughs Emilie Rouland.
