On December 1, Vincent Mannaert will take up his position as sports director of the Belgian Union. The former CEO of Club Brugge has his work cut out for him, and a first heavy task ahead.
Vincent Mannaert was officially appointed sporting director of the Belgian Union last week. The successful former CEO of Club Brugge therefore replaces Franky Vercauteren.
This week, the Devils regrouped before their last two Nations League matches. The right opportunity for CEO Peter Willems, who spoke to the press about Mannaert’s appointment.
He will have a say on the future of Tedesco
Willems notably revealed the tasks awaiting Vincent Mannaert, and it will not be a piece of cake. The first will already be to evaluate the work of Domenico Tedesco after the Nations League campaign and before the qualifications for the 2026 World Cup. A subject that divides: the CEO maintained his confidence in the coach, while the supporters of the Devils want change.
“We haven’t talked about the details yet, but it will certainly happen. Mannaert will provide reports to me and four other members of the sports committee,” Willems said on the microphone of The Latest News.
“I don’t see any reason, at the moment, not to support the coach. On the contrary, even. It was very good before the European Championship, less during and after, but we are building a young team. Still with the same attitude, we are here to win,” concluded Peter Willems.
