During a television segment on TVA Sports on Wednesday evening, journalist Renaud Lavoie mentioned that something new is to be expected in 2025. The media used to broadcasting special programs for the famous day of the start of hiring will have to find more ways to furnish their air time.

“For several years, we have been making announcements from 12 p.m. [midi]12:05 p.m., and it goes until 2 p.m. Often, the big names are signed in the first two hours and what happens is that the agreements were negotiated before July 1, therefore before the market opened,” first recalled the hockey expert.

“Bill Daly, assistant commissioner, met with all the directors general in Toronto. He told them that there is unease in seeing all these contracts announced very early. We do not have the right to do temperingor to sign secret agreements with players. We will therefore have to think about negotiating on July 1 at noon, and not before,” continued Lavoie.

The latter added that we must expect much later outcomes in several cases from the summer of 2025. The CEOs risk being cautious, knowing that sanctions such as fines or the loss of draft choices could be imposed by the league.
