The dreaded scenario has therefore arrived. The Alpine team has decided to abandon its Renault engine in Formula 1.

The Dieppe brand announced it at the beginning of the week via press release.

From the 2026 season, a Mercedes engine will power the car flanked by the A arrow.

This historic decision puts an end to the hopes of the employees of the Viry-Châtillon factory which until then supplied the engine for Formula 1.

From 2026

The partnership between Alpine and Mercedes will begin in 2026 when the premier motorsport category will face completely new regulations in terms of engines.

It seems that the prototypes developed within the Viry-Châtillon factory did not bring satisfaction to Luca De Meo et Flavio Briatore.

“In addition to the power unit, BWT Alpine Formula One Team will also have Mercedes gearboxes from the 2026 season,” specifies the brand’s press release.

“Determined to deliver the best performances”

From 2026, the Alpine team will only be French in name and brand since the factory responsible for manufacturing the chassis is located in Enstone in England. “The team remains determined to deliver the best performances during the 2024 and 2025 seasons,” concludes the press release.
