Adriano Bertaccini has had a very good start to the season with Sint-Truiden. The striker wants to do everything to continue to progress.
It was as co-top scorer in the championship alongside Kasper Dolberg and Tolu Arokodare that Adriano Bertaccini was interviewed by La Derniere Heure. He begins to realize how far he has come.
“A year and a half ago, I didn’t think I would be top scorer in the Pro League. I have to keep my head on my shoulders, it’s going to be long and the most important thing is to stay focused on the season. I still have many good years ahead of me,” he explains.
The Trudonnaire striker is inspired by the best: he admits that Pippo Inzaghi was his first idol, especially following his time at AC Milan, Bertaccini’s favorite club. For this Carolo by birth, Italy means a lot: “My family comes from a small village near Bari. We are very attached to our roots.”
La Squadra, the ultimate dream
This quite naturally leads to the choice of sporting nationality. Who will he represent if Belgium and Italy show up? “I would choose Italy. It’s my ultimate dream. I heard that the Italian federation asked me when I was in the youth teams at Genk, but I never had direct contact.”
At the time, there was also some contact with Arsenal: “My father said they followed me when Thierry Henry was in charge of screening. My agent also spoke to me about it, but I never spoke about it to Arsenal. All I know is that I was on the club’s recruitment lists. There were youth matches at Genk where I knew an Arsenal scout was present. But it didn’t go any further.”
Today, Adriano Bertaccini carved out his own path at Sint-Truiden after exploding at Olympic Charleroi. But he still has a few areas to work on, including one that Felice Mazzu particularly insists on: “Channel myself. Stay calm, because I get angry a little too quickly. I promised him that I would no longer get a yellow card for discussing with the referees this season.
