Algeria Foot – FIFA took CAF and Morocco by surprise, regarding CAN 2025, by officially announcing the date of the new Club World Cup, which was to be canceled.

On June 15, 2024, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) announced the long-awaited date for the 2025 Club World Cup. This exceptional edition will be held in the United States and will welcome, for the first time, 32 teams, including five Arab clubs from the African and Asian continents.

Exactly one year before the start of this competition, Gianni Infantino, FIFA President, sent an enthusiastic message to football fans around the world. He said: “Football fans everywhere! Exactly one year before the start of the new Club World Cup with 32 participants from six continents. Get ready, because the best Club World Cup is about to begin.”

In his message posted on Instagram, Infantino promised a unique experience: “You will see what you have never seen before and you will experience what you have never experienced before, the best of the whole world and, in the end, only one will be the true world champion”.

The clubs of Egyptian Al Ahly, Tunisian Esperance, Moroccan Wydad, Saudi Al Hilal and Emirati Al Ain ensured their participation in this historic edition. These teams were selected based on their impressive performances on the continental stage in recent seasons, in accordance with a ranking established by FIFA.

FIFA has set the date of June 15, 2025 for the start of the competition, which will last until July 13, a duration of 28 days. This marks a significant change from previous editions, which took place over just a few days with only seven clubs participating.

On the occasion of this announcement, several football stars expressed their enthusiasm for this competition. Brazilian Neymar Junior, player of Saudi Al Hilal, said: “It is an honor for me to play the 2025 Club World Cup to defend Al Hilal.” He added: “The best clubs in the world and the best athletes in the world will be there, and it is clear that this is where Al Hilal and my teammates should be. Expectations for the tournament are high and I am sure we will be ready to represent our fans.”

David Luiz, currently playing for Flamengo in Brazil, also shared his excitement: “I think it’s a great opportunity for everyone in the world, not just the players, because everyone will have the chance to watch matches they had been waiting for for a long time. It will certainly be a very successful Club World Cup. If I have the chance to be with Flamengo and participate in the Club World Cup, it will definitely be one of the best tournaments I will have played in my life”.

While waiting for the 2025 Club World Cup, a special edition called the 2024 Confederations Cup will be held in December this year. This competition will see the participation of six continental champion teams, including Spain’s Real Madrid, Egypt’s Al Ahly, Emirati Al Ain, Mexico’s Pachuca, New Zealand’s Auckland City, as well as the Copa Libertadores champion which will be determined soon.

The 2025 Club World Cup promises to be an unforgettable event, marking a turning point in football history with its expanded format and global participation. However, this risks disrupting the progress of CAN 2025, which will be held in Morocco.
