In the middle of the Stanley Cup final, we have news from our dear Montreal Canadiens who have been on vacation for many moons.

Finnish prospect Oliver Kapanen has signed his three-year entry contract with the Habs.

The contract will begin next season.

We’ve been waiting for it for several weeks now, but now it’s finally official.

Kapanen and the Canadian wanted to come to an agreement and so it was only a matter of time.

For those who know him less, it’s normal, the 20-year-old Finnish prospect drafted in the second round (64th overall) in 2021 has never been at the top of the CH prospect bank, but he remains a solid hope who could quickly make his place in Montreal.

Kapanen is a solid center capable of playing both directions of the ice, although he is primarily a player who excels in his own zone.

This season, the CH prospect demonstrated that he was very capable of producing offensively, as he obtained 34 points, including 14 goals in 51 games.

This is solid production for a 20-year-old in the Finnish Premier League (Liiga).

But it was especially in the playoffs that Kapanen impressed, when he was the best player on his team, accumulating 14 points, including seven goals in 13 games.

The Habs prospect then continued his excellent momentum at the World Championship, as he scored six goals in eight games.

In short, Kapanen is a good young prospect who could very well surprise at the next CH training camp.

He will clearly be one to watch, as he clearly has his chances of finding his place in the Montreal lineup at the center of a fourth trio.
