Paris Saint-Germain has indicated that it will strengthen prior checks on tifos to ensure that no messages of a political nature are broadcast. The announcement was made by AFP after a meeting between the club, the FFF and the French government, following the deployment of a large “Free Palestine” banner in the Auteuil stand at the Parc des Princes, Wednesday during the match in the Champions League against Atlético de Madrid.
During the Champions League match against Atlético de Madrid, the Collectif Ultras Paris (CUP) deployed a tifo at the Parc des Princes with the message “Free Palestine”, incorporating the colors of the club, a bloody Palestinian flag, a Lebanese flag, tanks and a figure wearing a keffiyeh. The Auteuil stand also displayed the banner “War on the ground but peace in the world”.
Representatives of PSG and the FFF, as well as the Minister of Sports, Gil Avérous, the Secretary of State Othman Nasrou and the Paris Police Prefect Laurent Nunez, participated in this meeting to decide on the measures to be put in place.
Access to the Parc des Princes will now be restricted for the CUP outside of match days, and a tifos validation procedure before each match will be put in place to guarantee the absence of political content.
PSG has confirmed a strengthening of the control of banners and their ban if they are not validated. Other sanctions against the CUP could be announced soon.
For its part, UEFA clarified that it will not initiate any proceedings against PSG, considering that the banner in question was not provocative or insulting.
