Yuki Tsunoda is not disappointed with his team’s attempt to put on wet tires at Interlagos. The RB F1 driver explains that this strategy was daring but that it would have worked if the red flag had not come out.
“I think what we did, switching to full wet tires, was a good thing” Tsunoda said. “The safety car and the red flag were the only things that turned the race around. If the red flag hadn’t come out I probably would have passed a lot of cars and maybe taken the lead, but it didn’t ‘didn’t come.’
Tsunoda made sure he could benefit from the penalty imposed on Oscar Piastri to gain a position, and above all he wanted to avoid mistakes: “The conditions were not easy. If you lose your concentration, there are many consequences.”
“I enjoyed the last stint, I fought well with Oscar. I tried to be within 10 seconds. I could have done a lot of things incorrectly, but I stayed clean and tried to to place seventh, which is good.”
The Japanese driver regrets that Alpine was able to score many points and overtake RB F1 in the constructors’ standings, but he is satisfied with his team’s pace: “The Alpines scored a lot of points, which is a shame for our place in the constructors’ championship.”
“Overall, the awards don’t really reflect our results on paper, so it’s a mixed day, but it’s good to score points again. There are a lot of positives to take from this weekend -end and we will continue to push for the last three race weekends.”
