The Belgian federal police will be there for the Paris Olympics. And it starts this Friday since patrols will be set up at Brussels Midi station in order to reinforce visibility in the station and on the trains.

Gare du Midi, an international station, is the direct link to Paris. But also towards Germany since the Euro football begins this Friday. This security aspect primarily targets petty crime and pickpockets.

On the other hand, more important measures will be taken specifically concerning the Olympic Games which begin on July 26.

A team to apprehend drones

In collaboration with the French police, a team of police officers responsible for “counter drones” will be in Paris to secure airspace that could be threatened by drones. These flying machines are potentially dangerous since they are able to transport packages that could be trapped. The federal police’s “counter drone” team will work on three levels of vigilance. The first is to first detect flying devices in the sky as well as the signals they emit. Once the drone has been located, it must be identified: is it registered, is its owner known? The Belgian police team will then be able to trace the signal back to the pilot.

Finally, if the threat is proven, the federal police team will be able to intercept the drone, in particular by jamming the waves or by physically intercepting the drone.

Explosives detection

The Belgian police will also be present in Paris and at the Euro football tournament via a liaison officer who will join the international police cooperation center. In the event of an incident, this agent will be able to directly exchange information with his foreign colleagues or provide information to Belgium. t

Olympic security will also be supported by several teams of explosive detection dogs.

Finally, at the borders, particularly in Hainaut, mixed patrols will be set up between Belgian and French colleagues.
