Thierry Henry speaks on CBS Sports to find out who deserves the credit for the recent resurgence of FC Barcelona.
Last night, the FC Barcelona won an impressive victory against Red Star in the Champions League (5-2). All eyes were on Hansi Flick. Jamie Carragher, on the set of CBS Sportdid not hesitate to congratulate him for the revival of the Catalan club. But Thierry Henry wanted to qualify this enthusiasm.
“I don’t think Flick has started a new era. It was Xavi who did it,” Henry affirmed. For him, Xavi is the true architect of this team.
He recalls that it was under the leadership of the former Barcelona midfielder that talents like Cubarsi and Lamine made their debut. “Flick continues what Xavi started. Xavi launched a lot of players there,” he continues, emphasizing that Flick benefits from the foundation built by his predecessor.
Difficulties under Xavi ‘forged’ Barca’s character, says Henry
Henry is also convinced that the difficulties Barça went through last season, under Xavi, forged the character of the team. “With the two years they played with Xavi, going through a complicated season like the previous one, that’s where you learn more about your character.”
According to him, this background now allows Barcelona to establish itself as a serious contender in the Champions League.
Finally, Thierry Henry remains realistic: “Are they going to win it? You have to lose a semi-final along the way, lose a quarter-final, to understand how difficult it is to go all the way. But I think they are equipped to go all the way.”
