Imane Khelif is not yet done with speculation about her gender. The Olympic boxing gold medalist has launched legal action against reports in French media earlier this week that she has XY chromosomes and is therefore male.

The Algerian boxer has already filed a complaint with French authorities over the online harassment she suffered during the Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee says it is “saddened” by the torrent of harassment to which Khelif has been subjected since his participation in the Games. This gave rise to a controversy which sparked comments from politicians and personalities ranging from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, to the new President of the United States Donald Trump, who added a layer during his campaign, to the author by “Harry Potter” JK Rowling.

In a press release, the IOC insisted that “all athletes who participated in the boxing tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games have complied with the eligibility and entry rules of the competition, as well as all applicable medical regulations issued by the boxing unit of Paris 2024”.

The IOC said Khelif had competed in the women’s category in international competitions “for many years”, including at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and the International Boxing Association (IBA) world championships and sanctioned tournaments. by the IBA.
