After qualifying for the Belgian Cup and a victory against Sint-Truiden at home, Standard is coming off a good week.
But in Ghent, things will not be easy for Ivan Leko and his men. For the moment, the Liégeois are especially effective at home, where they have collected no less than fourteen points out of twenty-one. A rather good result which contrasts with that achieved on the road.
A Standard with two faces
With only four points out of eighteen outside their bases, the Rouches know that they must do much better if they want to have a chance of fighting for the top 6. A top 6 which is only two units and which could become concrete if Standard beats Ghent.
With a draw at Beerschot last weekend and a European meeting against Omonoia this Thursday, the Buffalos could play the last meeting before the new international break with a disadvantage compared to Liégeois, who will have to take advantage of it.
A move to play in Ghent?
It will be recalled that this season Ghent was beaten several times at home, notably in the duel against the other Walloon team, Charleroi. On September 5, the Zebras managed to achieve a fairly large 0-3 victory against the Buffalos.
With a certain regained offensive efficiency, Standard will in any case have arguments to put forward but it will obviously be necessary for defensive efficiency to also be there, avoiding blunders like that of Matthieu Epolo, who was ultimately saved by the intervention of VAR during the match against Sint-Truiden.
