Killian Sardella, Anderlecht defender, is in the sights of Belgium and Cameroon. Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco has included Sardella in his pre-selection for the upcoming Nations League matches.
If he is selected, it could be his first official call-up to the Belgian national team, something Sardella has dreamed of for a long time. However, Cameroon are also keeping tabs on him, as the player has Cameroonian roots on his mother’s side.
According to The Latest News Cameroon has already contacted Sardella’s entourage to see if he would be open to selection. The country would like to see him join the national team. Marc Brys, the current coach of Cameroon, would closely follow his performances and would see this versatile defender as a valuable asset for the Cameroonian selection.
Sardella made it clear that Belgium remains his priority. Nevertheless, he feels a special connection with Cameroon, and in particular his mother plays an important role there.
“It would be a dream for my mom that I play for Cameroon, because that’s where she comes from and her family still lives there,” Sardella said in The Latest News . “Cameroon regularly participates in the African Cup of Nations and the World Cup.”
Despite the strong connection with Cameroon, Belgium still seems to be Sardella’s first choice. “Belgium has always been my dream,” he says. “I grew up here and played in all the age categories. In the last match against Scotland with the U21s, I was even captain.”
