Kasper Dolberg amazed everyone by sending a cannon shot on Sunday from a direct free kick. We didn’t know that the Dane had this in his arsenal.
Usually, we expect more refined finishing from Dolberg, but this time he opted for raw power, without any curve on the ball. This earned him a superb goal and the two coaches then discussed it at a press conference.
KV Kortrijk coach Freyr Alexandersson admitted afterwards that his team was aware of Dolberg’s abilities. “We knew Kasper could be dangerous on free kicks,” he said.
“Our goalkeeper coach, Franky Vandendriessche, had discussed this with Vandenberghe and explained to him how we could counter this.” Despite the preparation, the shooting was virtually impossible to stop.
Anderlecht coach David Hubert was clearly impressed by Dolberg’s approach to this free kick. “When you can hit that hard, there’s no need to curve,” Hubert joked after the match.
A goal which illustrates a little-known aspect of Dolberg’s game, namely his versatility. “Now he will have to take free kicks more often in the future,” warns Hubert. We can’t wait to see that.
