Football: Schällibaum is no longer Grasshopper coach

The poor results of Grasshopper, beaten 0-2 on Sunday in Lucerne, cost Marco Schällibaum his place, landed on Tuesday by the Zurich club.

On their site, the Sauterelles explained: “unfortunately, developments in recent weeks have been lower than expected. The Grasshoppers sports management has therefore decided to release Marco Schällibaum.

Arriving in April 2024 at Letzigrund, the 62-year-old coach saved GC during the play-offs of the 23-24 season.

This year, after 13 championship matches in the Super League, the Zurich side are in penultimate place in the standings, with 9 small points for two victories and three draws against 6 defeats. Too much for GC leaders.

It is Giuseppe Morello, Schällibaum’s assistant, who will act on the Grasshopper bench while waiting for the club to find a new coach.

In the GC press release, Marco Schällibaum acknowledges: “the separation hurts. However, I would like to thank those in charge for giving me the opportunity to lead the club that is close to my heart. I am proud to have coached at GC and my heart will remain connected to the club forever.”
