Unless there is any surprise, Franky Vercauteren should leave his post at the federation at the end of the year. And his replacement could well be Vincent Mannaert.
The name of Vincent Mannert circulates again within the Belgian Union. THE Newspaper reported this Monday that the former CEO of Club Brugge would be the federation’s No. 1 candidate to succeed Franky Vercauteren as technical director at the end of the latter’s mandate.
This is not the first time that Mannaert has been cited at the Belgian Union: this summer, the former Bruges manager was approached by ex-CEO Piet Vandendriessche, who failed to reach an agreement. This failure is one of the reasons for the latter’s departure.
Vincent Mannaert was then considered as a potential successor to Vandendriessche, but his involvement in Operation Clean Hands as well as his Bruges sauces (he is under conviction for drunk driving) had complicated things.
This time, it is to take over the role of Vercauteren, namely technical director, that Mannaert would be approached. The succession of the current “right-hand man” of Tedesco raises questions and the skills of the former Bruges player are highly appreciated within the federation.
After the failure of this summer’s discussions, there is still no agreement and the two parties will continue to negotiate in the coming weeks and months, but according to the Nieuwsblad, the discussions are going “in the right direction”.
