Inter took their time to beat Venice 1-0 on matchday 11. But the Interists provided the essentials by coming back to within a point of leader Naples, outclassed 3-0 at home by Atalanta.

Inter, still deprived of Francesco Acerbi in defense, suffered against Venice and could have been behind without a spectacular save from Yann Sommer (40th) in front of Gaetano Oristanio, although at close range.

Salvation came for the reigning Italian champion from his captain Lautaro Martinez who liberated the 66,000 spectators at San Siro in the 65th minute by taking home a cross from Federico Dimarco. Marcus Thuram immediately missed the opportunity to double the score, then in the 79th minute when his header was pushed back by the crossbar, and Inter, tense, trembled until the end.

In added time, Venice thought they equalized through Marin Sverko, before this goal was invalidated by the VAR for a foul by the Croatian defender.

The Nerazzurri did not miss the opportunity to get back on the heels of Napoli who they will face next Sunday, still at home, with the hope of going to the top of the championship for the first time this season.
