The Université de Montréal Carabins secured their ticket to the Dunsmore Cup by pulverizing the McGill Redbirds 42 to 3, Saturday afternoon at CEPSUM.
The Blues thus joined the Rouge et Or of Laval University in the final of the Dunsmore Cup. Amateurs will be entitled to an 11e straight game between the two teams during the final match of the Quebec division.
The Carabins were never really worried in the duel against McGill, taking the lead from their first offensive sequence. Veteran Carl Chabot scored a touchdown on a 17-yard run. See that middle finger in the main video.

The crowd favorites returned to the pay zone three more times before the end of the first half. Running back Redval Keita and quarterback Jonathan Sénécal had major runs, while Iraghi Muganda caught a 15-yard throw behind the goal line.

A little scare
The second quarter, however, ended on a negative note for head coach Marco Iadeluca’s team. After taking a pass, Sénécal went down on one knee. Canada’s 2023 MVP appeared to hurt the thumb on the hand he throws the ball with.
He was replaced by Rakim Canal-Charles for the final moments of the half, but Sénécal returned to his position for the third quarter.

The Carabins pivot concluded his game with 29 successful passes in 36 attempts (80.5%) for 324 yards and a passing touchdown, in addition to having covered 55 yards with his legs. The Blues number 12 also threw an interception.
Fullback Mathieu Barsalou scored the only touchdown of the second half of the game.
Latendresse-Régimbald completely neutralized
The Carabins’ big challenge against the Redbirs was to contain the excellent quarterback Eloa Latendresse-Régimbald. The latter arrived at CEPSUM on the strength of a historic regular season, where he amassed 2,061 yards with his arm and 781 yards with his legs.
The defense of coordinator Denis Touchette was visibly ready for Latendresse-Régimbald. The McGill pivot finished his game with 185 yards through the air and 73 yards on the ground. He was also the victim of three interceptions and five sacks, in addition to having fumbled the ball once.

Defensive end Jeremiah Ojo was a real torturer. The one who wants to make the jump to the professionals in 2025 ridiculed the opposing offensive linemen, which allowed him to put constant pressure on the quarterback.
Louis-Philippe Gauthier, Nicolas Roy and Samuel Leduc were the authors of the interceptions at the expense of Latendresse-Régimbald.
Note also that the Carabins were deprived of the services of Philippe Boyer for this duel. The best precision kicker in the RSEQ in 2024 has been replaced by Étienne Jacques. In his first game of the season, he made all of his conversion kicks and missed only one of his three field goal attempts.
In the Dunsmore Cup final next Saturday, the Carabins and the Rouge et Or will face each other on the TELUS-UL stadium field.
This game will be presented from noon on TVA Sports.
