In a book titled Chasing Salah, published by the Daily Mail, several aspects of the career of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah have been revealed. Among these stories, which particularly captivate the English media, is the tension between Mo Salah and Senegalese international Sadio Mané.
Despite being two of the biggest African stars of their era and despite Liverpool’s remarkable success, Sadio Mané and Mo Salah were far from sharing a harmonious relationship. According to the Daily Mail, Mohamed Salah did not appreciate the privileged treatment that Jurgen Klopp seemed to grant to Sadio Mané, judging that the German coach often favored the Senegalese, whom he had recruited first.

On the other hand, reports the Daily Mail, the number of goals scored by Salah annoyed Sadio Mané. The latter would have even asked the Liverpool staff to count the goals that Salah had scored thanks to his support. Mané was also upset that Salah was taking penalties in the absence of James Milner, which increased his goal tally. An anonymous member of the Liverpool staff was quoted as saying: “Sadio increasingly saw Mo as a rival. » As a result, the two players allegedly began to avoid each other.
Despite their efforts to conceal this tension, it came to light during a match against Burnley in August 2019. Sadio Mané reacted angrily when he was replaced by Klopp shortly after being ignored by Salah, while he was in a better position to score. According to the book, Klopp tried to downplay the incident but brought the two players together the following week to calm things down. However, Salah did not appreciate this meeting, believing that Klopp was taking Mané’s side.

The book suggests that one of the reasons for Sadio Mané’s departure from Liverpool was that he felt underappreciated compared to Mohamed Salah.
