Appointed president of the National Management Committee (CNG) of wrestling for one year by the Minister of Sports, Pierre Malick Ngom succeeds Bira Sène. Aged 47, this referee embodies new momentum for the future of the Senegalese arena.
The page of Ibrahima “Bira” Sène is now turned. After several weeks of hesitation, the Minister of Sports, Youth and Culture, Khady Dieye Gaye, officially announced Thursday her replacement by Pierre Malick Ngom. A shadowy actor, but a keen connoisseur of this “national sport” for more than two decades, his appointment arouses a wave of hope. After an 18-year career in wrestling refereeing, the new president of the CNG takes the reins of the body for a year, at a time when the arena is going through a tumultuous period.

He thus inherits a CNG faced with numerous expectations, and will have to embody the future of Senegalese wrestling in the short term. His appointment marks a change of direction for the CNG, in a context where the previous management was criticized for its lack of dynamism and its inability to meet the new challenges of the arena. Former Secretary General of the Central Commission of Referees, Pierre Malick Ngom is seen as an alternative to bring a breath of youth to a structure in search of renewal. He has a one-year mandate to achieve the objectives set by the Ministry of Sports.
Among the main challenges awaiting it are improving the organization of competitions, modernizing infrastructure and strengthening the professionalization of the discipline. To carry out his mission, he will be able to count on an experienced team. Isabelle Sambou, former wrestler and until now coach of the Senegal national team, now occupies the position of first vice-president in charge of Olympic wrestling, while Pape Babacar Fall becomes the second vice-president, responsible for wrestling with strikes, replacing Meissa Ndiaye.
