The sanction was final. Atlético Madrid announced this Friday, November 1, that it had banned nine supporters for life for violent and racist acts committed at the end of September and beginning of October, during the derby against Real. During the La Liga match between the two big rival clubs from the Spanish capital at Atlético’s Metropolitano Stadium on September 29, projectiles were thrown from one of the stands where the Colchoneros supporters were. One of the people involved was banned for life by the club, which had the stand concerned closed for three matches.
“Very serious acts”
A few days later, on October 2, during Atlético’s trip to Benfica in the Champions League, gestures considered by UEFA as “racist and discriminatory” had been observed, which this time earned the Madrid club a fine, which at the same time opened an internal investigation in order to identify the “people involved in these events”.

This led to the announcement on Friday “a procedure for the definitive expulsion of nine subscribed supporters (socios) for very serious acts contravening the club’s internal regulations”, explained Atlético de Madrid on its website.
