The round of 16 of the Belgian Cup delivered their final verdicts this evening. In addition to Anderlecht’s victory in Tubize, we note the qualifications of Antwerp and Cercle de Bruges.
Few surprises this evening in the Belgian Cup: the three first division teams entered held their place. 45 minutes before the start of the Anderlecht match in Tubize, Olympic Charleroi traveled to Cercle de Bruges.
Despite the Dogues’ good start to the season and the hopes against a terribly inconsistent Bruges team, the Groen en Zwart quickly took cover with two goals in the first 35 minutes from Enrick Nunes and Abu Francis (2-0) .
The entry of Roman Ferber in the second half marked the visitors’ desire to come back to score but it did not pay off. Le Cercle thus scored a third and final goal thanks to Gary Magnée and therefore remains committed on all three fronts.
Antwerp continues its momentum
In the last match of the evening, theAntwerp easily disposed of Deinze (6-1). With Dennis Praet starting for the first time this season, Jonas De Roeck’s troops also quickly took control, again with two goals in the first half hour via Vincent Janssen and Kobe Corbanie.
Tjaronn Chery made it 3-0 straight away from the locker room, Deinze responded by reducing the score straight away through Lennart Mertens. But Antwerp had the last month with three new goals from Chery and Anthony Valencia to give the score its definitive appearance.
Sporting Charleroi and Dender are therefore the only D1A teams eliminated during the round of 16. Now it’s time for the draw for the round of 16 in the next few minutes.
