Owner of Stade Malherbe de Caen in Ligue 2, Kylian Mbappé had previously considered investing in another Ligue 1 team. The captain of the French team hoped to become a shareholder in the AS Monaco club before turning back.
Winner this week of Martigues (0-3) during the 11th day of Ligue 2, Caen relaunched and above all avoided Nicolas Seube from becoming the first Normandy coach fired by…Kylian Mbappé. Officially becoming the majority shareholder of Stade Malherbe at the beginning of September after an agreement reached in July, the Real Madrid striker paid nearly 15 million euros to acquire 80% of the Norman club's shares.
But the takeover of the Caen team was not the first idea of the captain of the Blues. As explained by the newspaper L'Equipe and confirmed by RMC Sport, Kylian Mbappé thought about investing in AS Monaco. Anxious to keep a connection with his training club, the 25-year-old striker then backed out because of the size of such a buyout file.
Rybolovlev is considering selling Monaco
Trained in Monaco and launched at ASM in December 2015, Kylian Mbappé would have liked to return there as a shareholder. Especially since information surrounding a possible sale of the Rocher club by the Russian Dimitri Rybolovlev has multiplied in recent months.
Owner of 66.67% of the current second in Ligue 1 since 2011 (the Principality of Monaco owning the remaining 33.33%), the 57-year-old Russian oligarch plans to sell his shares after being approached by a potential buyer . Initially reluctant to this idea, Dimitri Rybolovlev finally opened the door to a withdrawal and hired the services of a bank specializing in the field to listen to possible buyout offers.
“Following the receipt of unsolicited interest, the majority shareholder of AS Monaco has decided to initiate a procedure in order to explore strategic alternatives for its participation in the club. The majority shareholder appealed to the services of the Raine Group which will act as exclusive financial advisor in this matter”, even explained a spokesperson for the owner of ASM in February. No guarantee is given that any transaction involving the club will be concluded following this strategic review.”
