Often an actor during the races in which he participates, Remco Evenepoel remained behind during the second stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné. Ultimately, the kid from Schpedaal finished in 27th position without participating in the final fight. Nothing to panic about, however, for the Belgian.

“I didn’t want to get fully involved in the sprint because Cort Nielsen and Roglic were still there,” he said once the stage was over. “Taking risks would not be wise in view of Tuesday’s stage. It will be a difficult stage and so it is important to be able to recover sufficiently for tomorrow.”

Indeed, after arriving at the summit this Monday in the fog, another difficult stage awaits the runners this Tuesday. The good news for Evenepoel is that he does not feel pain and remains in contact with his opponents. “Other than that, I felt good on the bike. It was quite difficult with a very fast race today. We always had wind, but the sensations were good. I wasn’t let go, so that’s positive.”

This Tuesday, the peloton will leave Celles-sur-Durolle before covering 181.7 kilometers towards Les Estables.
