Cole Caufield at the top of the NHL

Despite mixed performances from the Canadian so far, a certain Cole Caufield is having an excellent start to the season. Last night, in CH’s shootout loss to the Islanders, Caufield scored two goals to bring his tally to six goals in six games so far.

Caufield already stands out in several categories. The 23-year-old forward is currently second among the NHL’s top scorers, behind the great Nikita Kucherov.

He is also the first Canadiens player to score six goals in the first six games of the season since Brian Savage in 1999.

However, the most impressive statistic is certainly that Caufield leads in career goals per game percentage among all current players under the age of 24 in the NHL. With his two goals yesterday, he is now at 0.41% of goals per match, or 87 goals in 211 matches.

If Caufield is having a very good start to the season, we cannot say the same thing about all the CH players. Just yesterday, the second trio had problems. With Kirby Dach trying to shake off rust and find some comfort on the ice, his wingers Alex Newhook and Joel Armia aren’t helping him much. Nick Suzuki will also have to be much better. Despite his five points in six games, the captain is not necessarily consistent in his performances, especially at 5 vs 5.

The Canadian will enjoy another quiet week as the team has only two games on the schedule. The powerful New York Rangers will visit the Bell Center on Tuesday evening and the St. Louis Blues will do the same next Saturday evening.
