Former Ligue 2 player – Mathieu Michel on his signing for VAFC: “I have a feeling of revenge”

Relegated to the hierarchy of goalkeepers AC in Ligue 2 since the start of the season, Matthew Michel found a way out with a great challenge to take on in National 1 with the objective of playing the climb. A few days after his signing in the North, the 33-year-old goalkeeper explains the reasons for this choice in an interview given to the club’s official website.

“Why this choice? Honestly, already for the challenge and the sporting side with the objective in sight this season which is interesting. I was hungry to get another taste of the land. But not just anywhere. I still had one year of contract at Ajaccio where things were no longer necessarily going well in a particular context. I wanted to get back into something where I could bring my modest experience and find a real pleasure in playing. I liked this opportunity. I’m going down a level but it’s a club that I’ve always enjoyed playing against. There is a fervor here, Valenciennes is a club that speaks. I always played football for the show side, that’s what I was sorely missing. Here is the right context and the right project to re-flourish myself again. I have a feeling of revenge when you leave a situation like that. At 33, I’m still hungry! I know the stadium a little, I can’t wait to discover it in my new colors (…). I know my qualities, I know what I can bring to a group on a human and sporting level. We have a thankless position with responsibility. You have to convey confidence to the guys. I will give my best, as always. I can’t wait to get started. I knew Jean Louchet well in , I really like him. He was my replacement, he was coming up little by little. I was super disappointed for him to learn that he was a crusader, I’ve been there too. I will be happy to compensate for his absence by giving my best. Here he is rightly appreciated, I followed his performances. I called him, it was an opportunity that I had to seize. I would enjoy meeting him again. »
