the essential
Two hundred and thirty-six climbers from all over Occitanie took part this Saturday at the Croix de Fer hall in the final stage of the Occitanie climbing cup. The show was there.

There was great excitement this Saturday in the Cahors Escalade club room which hosted the final stage of the Occitanie bouldering climbing cup. Two hundred and thirty-six climbers, from the 8-year-old to veteran categories, from the clubs of Cahors (which had around fifty climbers and which obtained seven podiums), Gourdon, Saint-Céré, Toulouse, Tournefeuille, Luchon, Tarbes… confronted with the blocks (seventy in total) carefully prepared over four days by the opening team. Each category had thirty blocks to complete within a given time (around two hours) in order to earn the maximum number of points (knowing that the total number of points earned by a block is divided by the number of climbers who successfully completed it).
In a copiously stocked room at the Croix de Fer, the U10 category (girls and boys) opened this great day of climbing concluded by the U20, senior and veteran categories.
“This day allows our young people to compete at a very high level with the presence of climbers of national and even international level” explains Max Rouquette, president of the Cadurcien club at the end of a competition which notably welcomed Evan Lemagner, champion of France in youth bouldering this season, Luna Alvernhe, from Pôle Espoir de Toulouse, as well as the climber from Tarbes Maylis Piazzalunga (winner this Saturday in seniors), present at the bouldering World Cup events and delighted to be in Cahors . “It’s great to come back to Cahors. The rest of the season I am on the national and international events and there I am happy to come and meet the climbers from Occitanie. I come above all to please myself, to have fun, but a competition like today also allows me to confront new openings on the blocks and new movements and that is always interesting. Climbing is constantly evolving and we are learning all the time.”

Cahors Escalade projects

The show was on show this Saturday in the Croix de Fer hall to the great pleasure of competitors and spectators. “It was a great day,” rejoices Max Rouquette, “the young people are happy. When they discovered the ways, their eyes shone. This competition, which takes place in a nice atmosphere, offers great quality and great originality in the openings. This beautiful day adds to a successful season for the club (with its 361 members) which saw seven of its young people reach the semi-finals of the French championship and two qualify for the French championships.
“The number one project of the club,” continues the president of Cahors Escalade, “is to have a difficult exterior wall. With the introduction of the combined event, bouldering and difficulty, it has become essential to train in both disciplines and for the moment we can only train in bouldering.”
And the president continued: “Among other projects, we will apply to host the Occitanie Cup stage in November where we expect more than 350 participants, we will also apply to organize the Occitanie championship in all block categories. The following year and the year after that we will apply to receive a stage of the Coupe de France. » specifies the president of the Cadurcien club which, at the start of the next school year, “will welcome a new coach Rémy Le Calloch, who is 24 years old, who will come to work alongside Nicolas Brugoux. He will come to do an internship here in Cahors in mid-June before taking up his duties at the club from September.”
