France, in difficulty in the first period, won 2-1 in Belgium in a match of the 4th day of the Nations League A (group 2), Monday evening at the Roi-Baudouin stadium in Brussels.
While the Red Devils had until then created numerous chances, including a missed penalty by Youri Tielemans, the Blues opened the scoring in the 35th minute on a penalty converted by Randal Kolo Muani before the Belgians equalized by Loïs Openda in added time of the first period (45+3). Kolo Muani again gave France victory with a header in the 62nd minute.
In the same group, Italy consolidated its first place by dominating Israel 4-1 in Udine. Mateo Retegui, from the penalty spot (41st), Giovanni Di Lorenzo, with a double (54th and 79th), and Davide Frattesi (72nd) offered the Nazionale its third victory in four matches since its pitiful elimination in the round of 16 of the ‘Euro-2024.
Israel reduced the score on a direct corner from Mohammad Abu Fani (66th), poorly negotiated by Guglielmo Vicario, starting in the Italian goals in place of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Italy, held in check (2-2) by Belgium in Rome on Thursday after leading 2-0, totals ten points, before facing its two direct rivals in November for access to the quarter-finals, Belgium and France.
In Group 3, Germany won 1-0 in Munich against the Netherlands and qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition, scheduled for the end of March.
The German goal was scored by Jamie Leweling (64th), who made his debut for the national team at the age of 23. With 10 points on the clock, the German team is guaranteed to finish in one of the first two places in its group, which also includes the Netherlands (5 pts), Hungary (5 pts) and Bosnia-Hergovina (1 pt).
