The game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Canadiens is shown live on RDS and at RDS.ca.

Penguins 2 – Canadiens 1 (1st intermission)

After an uneventful start to the match, former Canadiens player Lars Eller opened the scoring with a wrist shot in the upper area. It was only the second goal allowed by Samuel Montembeault since the start of the season.

The crowd, however, cheered their team several times during the following minutes. First the demonstration of Lane Hutson’s incredible talent in the offensive zone, then the incursion of Jake Evans and finally the numerous body checks applied to the visitors.

Assisted by Evgeni Malkin, Rickard Rakell added to the Pens’ lead with less than five minutes remaining in the first period.

Kaiden Guhle took advantage of Michael Matheson’s good feint to continue his good start to the season. By scoring his first goal of the campaign on a reception less than two minutes later, Guhle allowed CH to retreat to the locker room with a goal difference.

Pre-match notes:

Forward Sidney Crosby only needs one point to reach the 1,600 plateau, while the Pittsburgh Penguins will be the visitors to the Bell Center to face the Canadiens this evening.

Crosby (592 goals and 1007 assists) could join a select group that includes Wayne Gretzky (2857 points), Jaromir Jagr (1921), Mark Messier (1887), Gordie Howe (1850), Ron Francis (1798), Marcel Dionne (1771 ), Steve Yzerman (1755), Mario Lemieux (1723) and Joe Sakic (1641).

Crosby will have the chance to accomplish the feat at the home of the team that drafted his father Troy in the 12th round – 240th overall – in 1984.

“I think the atmosphere there, growing up watching them, my dad being drafted by them, it’s a team that has so much history,” Crosby told NHL.com. You can feel it when you go there. It’s a fun place to play. »

The Penguins are off to a mixed start to the season, with a 1-2 record. They lost 4-2 in their last outing against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

The Canadiens beat the Ottawa Senators 4-1 on Saturday. They are 2-1 in 3 games. Please note that head coach Martin St-Louis will not make any changes to his training.
