Monkey mimes, Marseillaise whistled, great tension… What happened during the French “streamers” football match against Spain?

This Saturday evening there was a meeting between well-known French streamers like Michou or Inoxtag, facing Spanish content creators. But the match took a completely different turn. We explain why.

To fully understand the matter, let us first define the term «streamer». A streamer is a person who has the habit of filming their video game games live. This Saturday evening, well-known French streamers like Michou (10 million subscribers on YouTube), Inoxtag (8.63 million subscribers) or even «AmineMaTue» (1.87 million subscribers), the organizer of the event, faced other Spanish content creators on the pitch of the Civitas Metropolitano, Atlético Madrid stadium.

A true popular phenomenon (nearly a million viewers on the platforms), the event called «Eleven All Stars 2» was the revenge of the first match played two years ago between these same two teams, in an atmosphere worthy of the Champions League. But on Saturday, the French defeat (2-0) seemed very anecdotal. Technically poor, the meeting took a different turn from the kick-off. The Marseillaise was indeed whistled by the (young) public who came in large numbers (30,000 spectators).

Expulsion from the stadium

During the game, the numerous duels caused some tensions to flare up, which the referee was unable to calm down. Worse still, French content creator Broky Brawks let his anger explode by heading towards one of the stands, pointing at a man, who allegedly mimed a sign and shouted racist insults. The match was then interrupted for around ten minutes. The perpetrator of these acts was also expelled from the stadium. The two captains also had to take the microphone during this cut to denounce these unacceptable comments.

“It’s more than important, we just want to play football and provide entertainment. We, as content creators, in a modest way because we don’t say that we are going to play high-level football, we are here to show people that we can come out of our hole and produce things, lead by example. What happened extra-sportingly this evening is unacceptable, we will always be here to fight this.”Amine reacted to the microphone of RMC Sport at the end of the meeting. Very touched by these acts which targeted him – among others – Broky Brawks did not fail to react. “This is the first time I have been a victim. This has no place in sport.”.

Many players on the team really wanted to stop the match. I’m not going to lie, I was very disgusted, I had tears in my eyes

Broky Brawks

At the microphone of RMC Sporthe continues. “I’m going to be 33, I’ve never suffered it directly. It’s violent. I love sport and the values it promotes, racism has no place in sport or in everyday life. Many players on the team really wanted to stop the match. I’m not going to lie, I was very disgusted, I had tears in my eyes”. The meeting finally resumed in a less festive atmosphere, giving rise to an anecdotal defeat in a country where cases of racist acts in football have become commonplace.
