Several workers working on the construction site of Camp Nou, FC Barcelona’s stadium under renovation, were involved in a violent fight on Friday, a Catalan police source told AFP.

Six people were lightly injured following a brawl involving 20 to 30 workers, said the source, who confirmed that no arrests had been made and no one had yet filed a complaint.

Spanish media reported that some construction workers used wooden poles as weapons during the brawl and that those involved were fired by their employer, an external contractor contracted by FC Barcelona to handle the renovation.

The Catalan club, which has not communicated on this matter, has committed to returning to Camp Nou before the end of 2024, but has not yet set a date.

The legendary Catalan venue should initially reopen with a capacity set at 62,000 seats, the objective being to complete the work by the start of the 2026-27 season with a capacity expanded to 105,000 seats.

Since the start of work in 2023, FC Barcelona has played its home matches at the Montjuic Olympic stadium.
