Switzerland will field four marathon runners during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Swiss Olympic has selected Helen Bekele, Fabienne Schlumpf, Tadesse Abraham and Matthias Kyburz at the request of Swiss Athletics.

For Fabienne Schlumpf and Tadesse Abraham, who has just improved her Swiss record, this will be their third participation in the Games. Eight-time world orienteering champion Matthias Kyburz will experience his first Olympics, just like Helen Bekele who has recently been eligible to represent Switzerland in the international championships.

Note that Matthias Kyburz had to ‘recuse’ himself for the occasion, explains Swiss Olympic in its press release. Member of the Executive Council and representative of the athletes, he logically withdrew from the deliberations of the selection commission which concerned him this week, barely a month after having achieved the Olympic limit for his debut over the legendary distance.
