Skyler Brind’Amour will have the unique opportunity to play in the same organization as his illustrious father, Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour.

The 25-year-old forward agreed to a one-year, two-way contract that will pay him $775,000 if he plays in the National Hockey League and $75,000 in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Brind’Amour played three preparatory games this fall with the “Canes”, obtaining no points. Last year, he played in the AHL with the Charlotte Checkers, who recently became the Hurricanes’ farm club again. He amassed eight points in 54 games with them.

“We were impressed with Skyler’s defensive work last season in the AHL, and he continued with a strong preseason schedule,” general manager Eric Tulsky said in a press release. We are excited to have him join our organization.”

The Quinnipiac University product was a sixth-round pick (177th overall) by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2017 draft.
