Through the NHL: news from Kevin Labanc, Jason Robertson, etc.

Former San Jose Sharks forward Kevin Labanc has signed a one-year, one-way contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets, reports The Hockey News SATURDAY.

The deal would be worth US$775,000, the minimum salary in the National Hockey League.

Labanc signed a professional tryout contract with the New Jersey Devils this summer and then took the opportunity to score six goals during the preparatory calendar.

The Devils having decided not to offer him a contract, the Blue Jackets jumped at the opportunity, which will allow them to have an additional option on the power play.

Robertson back in training

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson participated in his team’s practice this morning after missing the day before due to an upper body injury, reports TSN.

Robertson’s condition was supposed to be reassessed daily. He scored two goals in Thursday night’s preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings. He has totaled five goals since the start of the preparatory calendar.

Furthermore, defender Jake McCabe and attacker Calle Jarnkrok did not train on Saturday morning, after also being absent on Friday. McCabe is dealing with an upper body injury, while Jarnkrok is bothered by a lower body injury, the same one that bothered him earlier in training camp.

Head coach Craig Berube finally indicated that goaltender Joseph Woll will play the entire game tonight against the Red Wings. These will be his first minutes of play since September 22.
